Five Jayhawks take home Academic All-Big 12 Honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Big 12 Conference announced their 2019 Academic All-Big 12 Golf Team on Thursday afternoon which featured 79 student-athletes around the conference.  Kansas had five total student-athletes take home the award, which tied with Baylor and Oklahoma on the women’s side for number of selections. The Jayhawks had four first-team selections including Ariadna Fonseca Diaz (Accounting) who was one of only nine student-athletes recognized for a 4.00 grade point average. The senior from Caracas, Venezuela has recorded a perfect GPA for her second consecutive year and has took home Big-12 academic awards each semester.

Joining Fonseca Diaz on the first team list is junior Yi-Tsen Chou (Visual Art), redshirt freshman Aristelle Acuff (Business) and junior Xinyun Yu (Math and Elec. Engineering). The trio has taken home academic honors each semester they’ve attended KU. Senior Victoria Chandra took home second-team honors which marks her second-straight year with Big 12 honors.

The Jayhawks previously had seven members including four current golfers make Academic All-Big 12 in the 2017-18 season. First-team honorees included Ariadna Fonseca Diaz, Yi-Tsen Chou and Xinyun Yu while senior Chomchana Phuchanbanchob took home second team honors.

First team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA. To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 20 percent of their team’s scheduled contests.Women’s golf had a total of 33 selections with 28 making first team and five making second team.
