LAWRENCE, Kan. – As day five of Kansas football’s 2017 edition of Fall Camp rolled around, it was finally time to put all the pads on and line it up. After spending two days in both shorts and then shells, the squad was ready for its first session in full pads.
The familiar sound of pads popping was welcomed at the two-hour session as the Jayhawks worked through their first small scrimmage of camp. Both sides had their moments, which is what every coaching staff is looking for from their team.

Several wide receivers made big plays, while multiple defensive players stepped up. While it was exciting to get fully padded and get in some hits, the highlight of the day ended up once the footballs were put away as Kansas volleyball head coach Ray Bechard addressed the team at the conclusion of practice. The leader of the reigning Big 12 Champions, Bechard had a great message for the footballers. For more on his message click here.
The Jayhawks will take part in their sixth practice of fall camp Saturday morning, before cleaning up to meet with reporters at KU’s annual media day in the afternoon. Head coach David Beaty will hold a press conference at 11:45 a.m. that will be streamed live on the Kansas Football Facebook page.
Kansas will begin the 2017 season on Saturday, Sept. 2 with a home game against Southeast Missouri State. The Jayhawks will also host nonconference opponent Central Michigan (Sept. 9/Family Weekend, Band Day).
