LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football held its eighth practice of fall camp on Tuesday, and third-year head coach David Beaty was clear on what he expects to start seeing from his players at this time of camp – production.
In his post-practice talk with the team, Beaty pointed out a few individuals who, as he put it, “made their presence felt” by producing at a high level during the team segment of practice.
Sophomore safety Bryce Torneden and sophomore cornerback Kyle Mayberry each came up with a pick six to draw positive remarks from Beaty and the defensive coaching staff. Other players Beaty applauded for their efforts on the defensive side of the ball were junior cornerback Shakial Taylor and junior defensive end Dorance Armstrong Jr., who was named the Big 12 Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
On offense, freshman wide receiver Quan Hampton continues to make the coaching staff “feel it” while he’s on the field, creating big plays when the ball is in his hands. Sophomore offensive lineman Andru Tovi also drew praise from Beaty after practice for his hard work on the field.
