Four Jayhawks ranked in end-of-year ITA polls

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas tennis team has four ranked players featured in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) final singles and doubles polls of the 2018-19 season released Wednesday.

KU’s first doubles team of seniors Janet Koch and Nina Khmelnitckaia finished the season ranked No. 5 in the nation. This season, the duo notched a 26-6 record, including a 17-4 record against nationally ranked opponents. Khmelnitckaia and Koch’s season was highlighted by winning the prestigious Riviera ITA Women’s All-American Championships in October of 2018. They were voted the No. 1 in the country in the April 2, 2019 weekly ITA poll, and they reached the Round of 16 in the NCAA Doubles Championship earlier this month.

Also in doubles, Kansas’ Anastasia Rychagova and Sonia Smagina end the year ranked No. 79 with a 17-3 record compiled this spring at KU’s No. 2 doubles position.

In singles, Rychagova concludes her illustrious Kansas career ranked No. 11 in the nation after reaching the Round of 16 in the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Individual Championship. Rychagova, a senior from Moscow, Russia, compiled an overall record of 22-4 during the 2018-19 season, including a 13-4 record against ranked opponents.

Fellow Kansas senior Koch finished the season ranked No. 105 in singles. This past fall, Koch won the ITA Central Region Singles Championship.
