United Way Recognizes Kansas Athletics Staff Campaign Contributions

The Kansas Athletics staff was recognized in the most recent United Way newsletter for its outstanding participation in the 2015 University of Kansas giving campaign. Kansas Athletics was one of four departments on campus recognized far above 50 percent percent participation in the December 3 newsletter, and led campus with 113.33 percent thanks in part to baseball’s wiffle ball challenge just off Jayhawk Boulevard.

Kansas Athletics was the only department in the United Way’s “Gold” category and was joined in recognition by KU Design and Construction Management, Kansas University Endowment and the KU Alumni Association as honorees. Each department had an average per capita contribution of $50 and will receive a certificate of appreciation.

Kansas’ baseball challenge on the lawn of Watson Library on November 4 brought in 72 additional participants from the KU community – participants that the United Way counted toward the department’s tally.

The United Way of Douglas County – this campaign cycle focused on supporting community organizations achieving the three goals of education, health and self-sufficiency – was near the midpoint of its goal of 6,000 supporters during the drive. As of early December, 2,918 contributions had been made to the United Way, which then distributes the funds to local organizations.
