Hakeem Adeniji named to 2019 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List

LAWRENCE, Kan. — The seventh annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List was announced Tuesday at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce and SPORTyler 14th Annual East Texas Kick-off Luncheon. Kansas senior offensive lineman Hakeem Adeniji was one of 42 players named to the list.

The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year college.

A native of Garland, Texas, Adeniji picked up All-Big 12 Second Team honors for the first time in his career after being recognized as an honorable mention honoree during his first two seasons as a Jayhawk. Adeniji started all 12 games at left tackle for KU in 2018, helping pave the way for Pooka Williams Jr.’s 1,000-yard rushing season.

Adeniji picked up Freshman All-Big 12 First Team honors from Phil Steele Magazine in 2016 and All-Big 12 Third Team honors from the same publication in 2017. He enters 2019 being recognized as a Preseason All-Big 12 First Team honoree by Phil Steele Magazine and a Second Team member by Athlon Sports.

The Watch List announced today will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to 5 finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans, and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 15, 2020. A player does not have to appear on the initial Watch List to be eligible to win the award.
