Jayhawk distance runners get Ward Haylett Invite started on Friday night

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas track & field distance squad kicked off the weekend’s action at the Ward Haylett Invitational on Friday night at the R.V. Christian Track Complex in Manhattan, Kansas. Jayhawks competed in three events, the men’s 1,500-meter run, the women’s 1,500-meter run and the men’s 5,000-meter run, picking up five top-five finishes.

Lauren Harrell notched a second-place finish and a personal-best performance in the women’s 1,500-meter run, clocking in at 4:33.06. Lisa Lauschke placed third with a time of 4:47.06.

Freshman Jake Ralston placed third in the men’s 5,000 with a time of 14:52.94, while George Letner(3:56.73) and Marcus Quere (3:58.67) rounded out the top-five finishes for the Jayhawks, placing fourth and fifth in the men’s 1,500, respectively.

NOTABLES

  • Quere’s 1,500 time of 3:58.67 was a personal-best performance.
  • Jack Young (4:00.05) and Michael Ronzone (4:04.21) placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the 1,500.
  • Dylan Miller (15:26.50), Ryan Butler (16:01.01) and Gavin Glaza (16:02.07) came in sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively, in the men’s 5,000.

The Jayhawks will continue action at the Ward Haylett Invitational on Saturday, with events slated to begin at 10 a.m. at the R.V. Christian Track Complex in Manhattan.
