Jayhawk Soccer Returns to Host Hawkeyes Saturday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Coming off its first win of the 2016 spring season, the Kansas soccer team will hit the pitch once again Saturday, April 16, when the Jayhawks welcome the Iowa Hawkeyes to Lawrence for an exhibition match. Kickoff for Kansas’ fourth of five spring exhibitions is slated for 1 p.m., from Rock Chalk Park. Admission is free to the public.

The Jayhawks will go head-to-head with a Hawkeye team that finished with a record of 7-10-1 and placed 12th in the Big Ten standings during its 2015 regular season. KU and Iowa met in each of the last two springs, with the Hawkeyes coming out on top, 2-0, in 2014 before the Jayhawks claimed a 1-0 win in 2015.

Kansas is coming off a 2-1 victory over the Tulsa Hurricane last weekend in Tulsa. Sophomore Alex Schweitzer helped propel the Kansas soccer team with a goal and an assist while junior Ashley Pankey also added a goal in the victory.

Following its match with the Hawkeyes Saturday, Kansas will close out the spring season on Saturday, April 30 when the Jayhawks host the Arkansas Razorbacks at Rock Chalk Park. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
