Jayhawk Tennis Center named facility of the year

LAWRENCE, Kan. – It its first year of existence, the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park has been awarded facility of the year by the United States Tennis Association (UTSA) Missouri Valley.

The news comes just days after the Kansas women’s tennis team hosted the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Central Regional Championships. The $9 million facility opened in the winter of 2016 and boasts six indoor and six outdoor courts, multiple locker rooms, meeting spaces, coaches’ offices, a team lounge, training room and a multipurpose room.

“We are so excited for our new facility to be honored by the USTA Missouri Valley tennis section,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “We believe we now have one of the top facilities in the United States. It is a nice honor for all of those involved in the process of the Jayhawk Tennis Center’s design, construction and daily maintenance.”

The award winners will be recognized during the USTA Missouri Valley Annual Conference and Awards Luncheon on December 2 at the Sheraton Hotel in Overland Park, Kansas.
