🏐 Jayhawks Complete Comeback Over Cyclones

AWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas volleyball was able to complete the comeback over the Iowa State Cyclones on Senior Night in the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena. KU recognized four seniors, Zoe Hill, Jacqui Mostrom, Allie Nelson and Ashley Smith, in the final-home match of their careers.

Set one was a battle at the start, before the Cyclones went on a run to extend their lead to double digits and earned the set, 25-14.

The second set was tied until the first timeout was called. KU earned the lead and looked to be on its way to a set victory after leading 20-15. ISU managed to score six points in a row to take the one-point edge, and held on to the lead despite the Jayhawks attempts to recapture. KU dropped the second set, 23-25.

Kansas was able to claim the win in the third set. Iowa State held the lead until KU was able to tie the game at 5-5. Once the Jayhawks took the lead, it bounced back-and-forth until the final three points. Kansas secured the set victory on an attack by Morgan Christon that set the tone for the remainder of the match.

Iowa State once again jumped out to an early advantage, but the Jayhawks continued to battle back and captured the 5-4 edge. Kansas did not relinquish the lead again and led by as many as eight, before closing the set at 26-24.

Much like the first four sets, the Cyclones found a way to jump out early, and held an 11-8 advantage before a Kansas timeout snapped their moment. The Jayhawks found their stride out of the break behind a loud and enthusiastic Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena crowd, and tied the set at 12-all.  KU rattled off the final three points despite an Iowa State timeout to slow the Jayhawk momentum and capped the victory on a Christon kill.

Senior Ashley Smith finished her final-home match with a career-high 20 kills, while fellow senior Allie Nelson tallied a team-high 16 digs. Sara Nielsen finished with a season-high 48 assists, and recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 12 digs. Camyrn Ennis notched the first triple-double of her career and first of the season for the Jayhawks, finishing with 11 kills, 10 assists and 12 digs.
