Jayhawks drop series finale to No. 2/2 Oklahoma

LAWRENCE, Kan. – In the series finale against No. 2/2 Oklahoma, the Sooners scored all their runs on four home runs, beating Kansas 8-0 at Arrocha Ballpark.

Oklahoma jumped out to an early three-run advantage off a three-run home run to left field in the first inning, and added their next run on a solo homer in the fifth. The Sooners tacked on four additional runs in the sixth off two home runs.

Lexy Mills earned the start and tallied one out before being relieved by Hannah Todd, who pitched the next five innings. Todd tossed three scoreless innings for the Jayhawks and allowed only five hits to the 23 Oklahoma batters she faced.

Todd was replaced by Brynn Minor who pitched the final two outs of the sixth inning.

The Jayhawks secured their first hit of the game in the first inning off a Morgyn Wynne single to left field and added their second hit of the game in the second inning by Miranda Rodriguez.

KU earned their first extra base hit of the series in the fourth inning when Becki Monaghan laced a double down the right field line.

Kansas also earned walks by Sydnee Ramsey and Shelby Hughston.

NOTES

  • Kansas tallied three hits against the Sooners in the series finale, surpassing its total from the first two games of the series.
  • Hannah Todd had three strikeouts and matched her season-high mark that she achieved against Baylor on March 30.
  • Becki Monaghan’s double in the fourth inning is her first double since March 31 against Baylor. Monaghan has a team-high 10 doubles this season.
