Jayhawks jump to No. 11 in national rankings

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After another undefeated weekend, the University of Kansas soccer team continued its climb in the NCAA top-25 rankings, released by the United Soccer Coaches Tuesday, checking in at No. 11. The ranking marked the highest for the Jayhawks in the coaches’ poll since 2014.

Kansas, which is 4-0-0 after the opening two weekends of the regular season, is the highest ranked team in the Big 12. Behind the Jayhawks are No. 22 West Virginia and No. 24 TCU. Baylor, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Texas are also receiving votes in the poll. KU began the season unranked, before checking at No. 18 last week and jumping seven spots to 11th this week.

The Jayhawks have netted 13 goals in their first four outings, a figure with ranks 10th in the NCAA. The KU defense has also conceded just one goal. The Jayhawks’ 0.25 goals-against average is the 11th-lowest in the nation.

The Jayhawks will look to continue their hot start to the season when they journey to West Lafayette, Indiana for the Boilermaker Challenge Cup. KU will open the weekend with a match against the DePaul Blue Demons on Friday, Sept. 6 at 3 p.m. (CT), and will close the trip on Sunday, Sept. 8 with a 1 p.m. (CT) contest against host Purdue, which is also receiving votes in this week’s top-25.
