Jayhawks Top Indiana State In Season Opener, 84-72
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Five players made their Jayhawk debut when Kansas defeated Indiana State 84-72 Thursday night at Allen Fieldhouse.
The Jayhawks were led by freshman guard Holly Kersgieter who put up 24 points and 10 rebounds, making for a double-double. Kersgieter was followed by freshman guard Zakiyah Franklin, who put up 16 points and five rebounds.
KU had four players score in double digits, Kersgieter with 24, Franklin with 16, senior forward Mariane De Carvalho with 15 and sophomore guard Brooklyn Mitchell with 11. Kansas shot 52.8 percent (28-53) from the field and made 57.1 percent (24-42) of free throws.
This win put the Jayhawks at 40-11 in season openers and moved Coach Brandon Schneider to 4-1 in his season openers with Kansas.
