Jayhawks win first two match-ups at the Big 12 Match Play Championship

HOUSTON– The Kansas men’s golf team defeated (2) Oklahoma and (3) Baylor in the first session of the Big 12 Match Play Championship at the Houston Oaks Golf Club in Houston, Texas, on Friday, Oct. 11.

After the first day, the Jayhawks lead Pool B with six team points. Kansas won the first session against (2) Oklahoma 3-1-2 and the 2018-19 match play champion, (3) Baylor in the second session, 4-2.

"It was overall a team effort. Great comeback in the morning round. We had three guys win on their 18th hole and flipped the morning match. In the afternoon match, we got down early and kept fighting back."

Leading the charge in the first match-up for the Jayhawk was freshman Luke Kluver. Kluver won 5&3 against the Sooners and 2&1 over Baylor.

Following suit behind Kluver were senior Andy Spencer and junior Harry Hillier. Both won their match-ups 1UP against Oklahoma. Hillier won his match-up against Baylor 2&1, while Spencer finished 1UP in the second session.

Junior Ben Sigel tied in the first match-up, but came out on top against the Bears 2&1 to help the Jayhawks win the second match-up.

"We need to build the momentum from today and keep it going into Saturday."
