Kansas completes day one in Auburn and Charlottesville

AUBURN, Ala.—Kansas women’s tennis collected four singles wins at the Marliss Gruver Fall Invitational on Friday in Auburn, Alabama. Sophomore Julia Deming recorded a perfect record (2-0) and advances to the semifinals of singles in the flight B (orange) bracket on Saturday.

"We are happy to be at Auburn competing in our first fall tournament of the season. It was nice to see our two freshmen compete in their first college event and get some match experience. It was also great to see Julia fight through two tough matches."

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—Kansas battled an up and down, opening day at the Wahoowa Invitational on the University of Virginia’s campus Friday. Senior Maria Toran Ribes and sophomore Malkia Ngounoue collected a pair of doubles wins, but fell short in singles action.

"Today was an up and down day. In doubles, Malkia and Maria competed well and continue to build confidence as a team. In singles, we had some great opportunities but didn’t consistently stick with the game plan we had going into the matches. Early in the season this happens sometimes, but hopefully we learn from what worked well today and the areas where we fell short."

head coach Todd Chapman
