Kansas drops series finale to 13/16 Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – Kansas softball dropped the series finale to No. 13/16 Oklahoma State 7-3 at Cowgirl Stadium. OSU scored runs in five of the six innings and a late Kansas comeback attempt was thwarted by the Cowgirl pitching staff.

Brynn Minor earned the start for Kansas (14-24, 2-4) and pitched the first 1.2 innings before being relieved by Lexy Mills. Mills pitched the next 2.1 innings and allowed the game-winning run in the fourth inning.

Oklahoma State (29-11, 7-2) opened the game by scoring one run in the first inning and two runs in the second, while Kansas earned all three of its runs in the third inning.

After loading the bases, Becki Monaghan pushed the first run across after being hit by a pitch.

Madison Sykes plated two more runs on a two-out double to left center field.

Oklahoma State responded with two additional runs in the fourth off a double down the right field line and a home run in the fifth.

Down to its last two outs, the Jayhawks loaded the bases, but the final two Kansas batters were unable to plate any runs.

NOTES

  • Madison Sykes hit her team-leading eighth double in the third inning. Sykes is the team leader in hits (33) and is second in runs batted in (16) after her two RBI against Oklahoma State.

Kansas returns to Lawrence to host No. 2/2 Oklahoma April 12-14 at Arrocha Ballpark. The Friday, April 12 matchup promotion is Pack the Park/Blue Out, while Saturday, April 13 is Star Wars Day. The series finale is slated to be Cartoon Classics day.
