Kansas Heads West in Fall Finale

LAWRENCE, Kan.- Kansas will split its squad to participate in two different tournaments as the fall season ends this weekend, Nov. 8-10, at Arizona State and UNLV.

Maria Toran Ribes, Sonia Smagina, Luniuska Delgado and Malkia Ngounoue will represent the Jayhawks in Arizona at the Thunderbird Invitational.

Vasiliki Karvouni, Julia Deming and Roxana Manu will compete in Las Vegas at the Rebel Tennis Women’s Invitational.

Both tournaments mark the final event of the 2019 fall slate for the program.

Eight different teams will be joining the Jayhawks on the UNLV campus with competitors from UNLV, Ole Miss, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Arizona, Colorado and Utah. The tourney holds five flights of singles and three flights of doubles with play beginning at 12 p.m. CT each of the three days. Each individual or doubles pair will be guaranteed at least three matches over the weekend.

There will be no live results or live streams for this weekend’s play. Updates will be provided on Kansas’ tennis social media channels with recaps posted at KUathletics.com at the conclusion of play each day.

The three-day invitational in Tempe, Arizona will feature 12 programs from across the country. The field includes Arizona State, California, Michigan, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Kansas State, Texas Tech, Mississippi State, San Diego, Washington and Northern Arizona. The first match for Kansas is set for 9:30 am on Friday against Washington in singles action. Double will kick off at noon. The weekend’s schedule and results will also be posted on the tournament page.
