Kansas hosts ITF Lawrence pro event
LAWRENCE, Kan.— Kansas opens its facilities to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and will host the Jayhawk 15k pro circuit tournament from Sept 9-16 (Monday- Sunday) at the Jayhawk Tennis Center at Rock Chalk Park.
The Jayhawk 15k tournament is one of many that is part of a professional series organized by the ITF and United States Tennis Association (USTA). The event offers $15,000 in prize money. It is also an opportunity for professional players from around the world to receive ITF World Tennis and Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) ranking points.
"At the professional event hosted at our facility a year ago, current US Open finalist and top 15 WTA player Brianca Andreescu, as well as numerous other accomplished professional players competed. It is a great event that will allow our tennis community to see some of the up and coming professional players as they work up the pro ladder. The event is free to everyone so we hope we get a great turnout to support such a wonderful event."
Todd Chapman, Head Coach
A 32-player singles qualifying draw will be played all day Monday (Sept. 9) through Tuesday morning (Sept. 10). The draw decides the remaining eight spots in the 32-player singles main draw, which starts Tuesday afternoon alongside the doubles main draw.
The Jayhawk 15k is free of charge to the community.
