Kansas looks to make it four straight top-three finishes

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s golf is hitting the final stretch of the regular season this weekend as the team travels to Charlotte, N.C. to partake in the 2019 Cabarrus County Irish Creek Intercollegiate. The Jayhawks are looking to make it four straight tournament finishes inside the top-3 at the two-day, 54-hole event. The field will consist of 16 teams, with four ranked in the top-50, and 96 competitors. The tournament will commence with a 36-hole, shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. (eastern) on Saturday morning and will conclude with the final 18-hole round on Sunday.

Kansas enters the tournament with some experience at this tournament after finishing fourth overall last season. The team finished 22-over and were only seven strokes behind a top-3 finish.

Senior Charlie Hillier is coming off his first career win at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate and is hoping to carry that success into this weekend. He finished tied for 12th in last season’s Irish Creek Intercollegiate with a 4-over final score. Junior Andy Spencer also has some experience with the 7,099-yard course at The Club at Irish Creek after participating in last year’s event. He shot 6-over at the tournament, which placed him tied for 20th in the field.

Potee bag at NCAA Championship

Sophomore Harry Hillier is looking to bounce back from his 9-over performance at the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate in his last outing after finishing under par in his last three tournaments. He shot a 225 (+15) in last year’s event.

Redshirt Freshman Jeff Doty, sophomore Ben Sigel and freshman Shaun Campbell round out the other three Jayhawks that will be traveling to North Carolina for the weekend.
