Kansas rowing completes day one of Oak Ridge Cardinal Invite

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. – The University of Kansas kicked off the spring 2017 rowing season at the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on the waters of Melton Lake on Saturday. The Jayhawks went oar-to-oar against some the elite teams in the nation in the event hosted by the University of Louisville.

Kansas began Saturday morning in the First Varsity Eight competition, gliding to a fourth-place finish with a time of 6:46.9, just three seconds behind Clemson.

Up next, the Jayhawks raced in the First Varsity Four where they finished third with a time of 7:37.8, then second in the Third Varsity Eight with a time of 7:23.4. Those results were followed up with back-to-back fourth-place finishes in Second Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Four with times of 6:57.7 and 7:51.7, respectively.

In the Saturday afternoon portion of the event, KU began with the First Varsity Eight race, adding another fourth-place finish to the Jayhawks’ day with a time of 6:54.3.

As the afternoon sessions concluded, the Jayhawks had etched two more second-place finishes. The Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four ended the races with times of 7:55.9 and 8:05.0, respectively.

Kansas will conclude the Oak Ridge Cardinal Invitational on Sunday morning.
