LAWRENCE, Kan. – As the fall semester winds down, Kansas softball is gearing up for its 2017 season, and with 58 days until first pitch, the Jayhawks announce their lineup for the upcoming season that features a pair of nonconference tournaments and three league series at Rock Chalk Park.

With more games scheduled than a season ago, KU softball will play 56 contests during the 2017 campaign, including 21 games in Lawrence. Kansas will also face nine opponents on the diamond which appeared in the NCAA Tournament last season, including the defending National Champions Oklahoma.

The Jayhawks start the year with a 21-game road swing spanning two states before returning home to host two tournaments at Rock Chalk Park. KU opens the season at the Stetson Tournament (Feb. 10-12) and returns to Florida for the North Florida Tournament (Feb. 17-19). After back-to-back weekends in the Sunshine State, Kansas heads to Texas for the Lamar Tournament (Feb. 24-26) before returning to Florida to end its road tilt at the D-9 Tournament (March 2-5).

After the first four weekends away from Rock Chalk Park, KU returns home to host the Jayhawk Invitational (March 10-13) and the Rock Chalk Challenge (March 16-19). The Jayhawks face Wisconsin-Green Bay in their 2017 home opener, as Drake and Iowa round out the field for the first home tournament of the year. The Rock Chalk Challenge includes matchups with LSU, UMKC, Tulsa, Southeast Missouri State and Nebraska-Omaha.

Kansas will also travel to SIU-Edwardsville and Nebraska, while hosting Creighton and Wichita State in nonconference action. The location of the three-game series against Nevada, April 21-23, will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Jayhawks begin their 21st season in the Big 12 Conference at home with a three-game series against Baylor (March 24-26). Kansas will travel to Oklahoma State (March 31-April 2), Texas Tech (April 7-9) and Iowa State (May 5-7) for three-game league series. KU welcomes Oklahoma (April 13-15) and Texas (April 28-30) to Lawrence for three-game series.

As announced in the fall of 2015, the Big 12 Conference reinstated its softball championship beginning with the 2017 campaign. Last held in 2010, the postseason tournament will return to Oklahoma City for a three-day event, May 12-14.

The championship will include pool play for the top six teams and will be contested at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium Complex, site of the conference’s previous 15 championships and also home to the NCAA Women’s College World Series.

The NCAA Tournament selection show will be Sunday, May 14 with regional action kicking off Friday, May 19. The 2017 Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, will start Thursday, June 1.
