Kansas tennis continues road trip in the Lone Star state

LAWRENCE, Kan. – After a 1-1 start to open Big 12 Conference play in the Sooner state, the Kansas tennis team, currently ranked No. 16 in the nation, will travel to Texas this weekend for conference matches against Baylor and No. 18 Texas.

The Jayhawks will face Baylor on Friday, March 22, at 5 p.m. at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco. On Sunday, March 24, Kansas will face the Longhorns at noon at the Texas Tennis Center.

BAYLOR
The Bears are 5-14 on the season including an 0-1 conference record. Kansas trails the all-time series 23-7. Last season, the Jayhawks defeated the Bears at the Jayhawk Tennis Center, 4-1, in the regular-season matchup. In the 2018 Big 12 Championship, though, Baylor got the best of Kansas, 4-2.

TEXAS
No. 18-ranked Texas is currently 7-3 on the season. The Longhorns open Big 12 play Friday, March 22, against No. 38 Kansas State before hosting the Jayhawks Sunday. Kansas is 1-28 all-time against Texas, with the Jayhawks’ lone victory in the series coming in 2016.

“All road matches in the Big 12 are challenging and this weekend will be no different,” said Kansas head coach Todd Chapman. “We look forward to the opportunity to compete against two quality opponents and to continue getting better as the season develops.”

The Jayhawks have recorded wins over eight ranked teams this season, having defeated Northwestern (then No. 19 in the nation), No. 34 Illinois, then-No. 36 Wichita State, Tulsa (then No. 46), Rice (currently No. 42), Arkansas (then No. 41), Air Force (then No. 44) and No. 30 Oklahoma.
