Kansas to take on Creighton Friday

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Due to high winds forecasted for this weekend, Kansas’ dual against Creighton has been moved to Friday evening with racing beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The dual is free and open to the public at the Kansas Boathouse, located in Burcham Park (200 Indiana Street, Lawrence, Kansas).

Friday’s race will be the first time the Jayhawks have seen Creighton in competition this season and will compete in four events as the Third Varsity Eight, Fourth Varsity Eight, Third Varsity Four and Fourth Varsity Four are scheduled to race.

The Third Varsity Eight comes into the race weekend after a silver medal finish during its last time on the water at the George Mason Invite. After finishing first in its qualifying heat, the Quiet Beast advanced to the grand final and crossed the finish line in 7:00.95, good for second place.

The Blue Jays return to the water after a tough defeat by Drake, suffering losses in the opening three races at their home regatta on April 6. Creighton’s closest race of the competition came from the First Varsity Eight, but finished just short of first place with a time of 7:22.10.

Friday will mark the first of two home regattas for the Jayhawks, the second is the annual Dillons Sunflower Showdown on Saturday, May 4, at Wyandotte County Lake in Kansas City, Kansas.
