Kansas wins two to open SMU Fall Invitational

DALLAS – Kansas tennis completes day one and collects two wins at the SMU Fall Invitational on Friday afternoon at the SMU Tennis Complex in Dallas, Texas.

"Today we did not compete at the standard that is expected in our program. I am glad we have the opportunity to get back on the court tomorrow. Tomorrow we'll have the chance to show some growth as competitors and give ourselves a chance to get better."

Doubles recap

KU started the invite bright and early splitting the doubles round. Sophomore Julia Deming and Freshman Luniuska Delgado dropped both of their doubles matches versus Stephen F. Austin (7-5) and Wichita State (7-5). KU finished the doubles round on a high note as Soina Smagina paired with Roxana Manu to defeat a team from SMU, 6-4.

Singles Recap

Singles action ended the day for Deming, Delgado, Smagina and Manu. Three saw action in the Hilltop Draw while one Jayhawk competed in the Mustang Draw. Deming found success in the Mustang Draw with an 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Southern Miss. The Hilltop Draw was not kind to the Jayhawks as Delgado, Smagina and Manu each fell in their respective matches.
