LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas women’s golf team will head to San Diego, California to compete in its fourth tournament this spring at the SDSU Farms Invitational at the Farms Golf Club, March 21-23.

The Jayhawks will bring senior Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, junior Pornvipa Sakdee, freshmen Ariadna Fonseca Diaz and Victoria Chandra and sophomore Pitsinee Winyarat.

The tournament will contain a 16-team field that will include (in order of seeding) USC, UCLA, Arizona, Stanford, California, Arizona State, San Diego State, Oregon, Colorado, TCU, UC Davis, Kansas, Texas State, Memphis, Delaware and UC Irvine. Eleventh-seed KU will face off first against sixth-seed California. The SDSU Farms Invitational will be a 72-hole match play event that will consist of the competition to play 36 holes on Monday, 18 holes on Tuesday and the final 18 holes on Wednesday.

“We enjoy playing in a match play format tournament. It’s a great opportunity to practice playing a different format especially it is now a part of our NCAA championship,” KU head coach Erin O’Neil said. “There can be more gamesmanship in match play, it’s definitely a different mentality than stroke play.”

The NCAA championships began using match play in 2015, having the top eight teams after 72 holes of stroke play compete in single-elimination match play for the team title.

The Farms Golf Club is a par-72, 6,211-yard golf course that is known for its well-designed greens, exciting tee areas and strategic hole locations. The tournament will begin Monday, March 21, as teams will be grouped based off of their Golfstat ranking for round one and then for round two, there will be a championship and consolation bracket based off of round one results. The tournament will conclude on Wednesday, March 23 with a winner from both brackets. Live scoring can be found at birdiefire.com
