Kersgieter Earns Big 12 Player and Freshman of the Week Honors
IRVING, Texas โ After boasting a double-double and helping KU to a perfect opening week, Kansas guard Holly Kersgieter was named Big 12 Co-Player of the Week and Big 12 Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award winners.
The Sand Springs, Oklahoma native, averaged 16.0 points, 8.6 points and shot 55 percent (11-of-20) from the field as the Jayhawk swept its opening week of the 2019-20 season. Kersgieter boasted a double-double in her first game as Jayhawk against Indiana State. She led KU with 24 points and 10 rebounds in the 84-72 win. She added eight points and seven boards in the win over Illinois-Chicago on Sunday. Kersgieter is the first Jayhawk to win the freshman weekly honor since 2015.
The Jayhawks (2-0, 0-0 Big 12) host Omaha Wednesday, November 13 at 7 p.m. CT.
