Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosts OneTeam Kickoff
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Athletics’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the OneTeam Kickoff inside the Wagnon Student-Athlete Center on Tuesday evening.
SAAC is committed to fostering an environment of camaraderie and support for all Kansas Athletics teams, and created the OneTeam Initiative to help further that commitment. Each sport has designated one if its competitions as a OneTeam game, with the goal to encourage attendance and support from fellow student-athletes and staff members.
At the kickoff event, student-athletes and staff members received OneTeam t-shirts to wear to the designated events to help show support for the initiative and one another.
The event’s keynote speaker, Associate Athletics Director of Student Life Etienne Thomas, spoke to all in attendance about the importance of diversity and inclusion within Kansas Athletics, something the department strives to promote as integral parts of the educational experience of student-athletes.
Jayhawks come from all corners of the world, and those in attendance were able to see just how far the Crimson and Blue stretches across the world by checking out the new addition to the hallways in Wagnon – a display of flags from 31 countries in which current Kansas student-athletes originate.
The first OneTeam event for the year is October 6 when Kansas soccer welcomes in-state rival K-State for the Sunflower Showdown. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
