KU tennis heads to ITA Central Region Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – LAWRENCE, Kan. – After being crowned the main draw doubles champions at the Riviera ITA All-American Championships Sunday, seniors Nina Khmelnitckaia and Janet Koch, in addition to their Kansas Jayhawks teammates, will look to continue their 2018 success at the ITA Regional Championships in Iowa City, Iowa. Competition is slated to begin at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex will begin Friday, Oct. 12 and run through Tuesday, Oct. 16.
 
The Central Region championship will consist of more than 160 players from 26 different schools. Singles qualifying rounds will begin Friday morning and doubles in the afternoon. Both finals matches, singles and doubles, will take place Tuesday morning, Oct. 16, at 9 a.m., at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
 
Khmelnitckaia and Koch, along with sophomore Plobrung Plipuech, playing in her first-ever competition as a Jayhawk, will be taking to the court in the singles bracket. Freshmen Julia Deming and Malkia Ngounoue, junior Maria Toran Ribes and freshman Sonia Smagina are all slated to compete in both the singles and doubles brackets in Iowa City.
