MATCH PREVIEW: at Wichita State (EXH.)

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas volleyball is set to open the 2019 fall campaign with its lone exhibition of the season at Wichita State August 17 at 3 p.m.

The Jayhawks return nine letterwinners from last season and welcome six newcomers, including five freshman. Sara Nielsen is the lone transfer for KU this season.

2018 KANSAS // WICHITA STATE

  • Kansas finished the 2018 season with a 15-12 overall record and 8-8 in Big 12 play.
  • Wichita State finished last season with a 14-18 record and 8-10 in conference play against American opponents.

2018 POSTSEASON HONORS

  • Rachel Langs was named to the 2018 Big 12 All-Freshman Team, while Ashley Smith (second team) is the only returner of the three Big 12 postseason selections from last season.
  • Allie Nelson is the lone returning Jayhawk to earn Big 12 All-Academic team honors. The rising-senior was a second team selection and is majoring in finance.

WICHITA STATE CONNECTIONS

  • Tori Miller, a Jayhawk from 2014-17 and the KU director of operations in 2018, is the graduate assistant coach for the Shockers.
  • Jacqui Mostrom’s two older sisters, Dani and Gabi, were four-year members of the Shockers. Dani graduated from WSU in 2016 and Gabi in 2017.

AVCA PRESEASON POLL

  • KU is receiving votes in the 2019 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Preseason Poll. The Jayhawks are one of four Big 12 teams earning votes with Texas (No. 4) and Baylor (No. 20) in the top-25. TCU is receiving four votes.
