Match Preview: Jayhawks head south for SMU Fall Invitational
LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas women’s tennis continues its fall season sending four student-athletes to Dallas, Texas for the SMU Fall Invitational. Play begins Friday, September 27, at the SMU Tennis Complex and lasts through the weekend.
Jayhawk sophomore, Julia Deming, will look to continue her hot start this fall season after reaching the singles final in her respective bracket this past weekend at the Marliss Gruver Invitational.
Fellow sophomore, Sonia Smagina, will take the court for the first time this fall. In her rookie season, Smagina was named to the All-Big 12 freshman team, All-Big 12 singles second team and All-Big 12 doubles first team.
KU freshmen Luniuska Delgado and Roxana Manu round out the four Jayhawks competing in the event.
Other teams competing in the SMU Fall Invite include: SMU, South Carolina, Kansas State, Wichita State, Stephen F. Austin, Southern Miss, Arkansas and UT San Antonio.
Tournament play begins Friday morning with doubles and singles that afternoon.
