Accolades Roll in for Jayhawks
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas men’s basketball players Joel Embiid, Perry Ellis and Andrew Wiggins have been named to various postseason honors as the Jayhawks set off to defend their postseason Big 12 Championship at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., Thursday.
Wiggins headlines the accolades as he was named to the SI.com All-America Second Team Tuesday and the 2013-14 USBWA Men’s All-America Second Team and the NABC All-District 8 First Team on Wednesday. Embiid joined Wiggins on the NABC All-District 8 First Team, while Ellis was a second-team NABC District 8 selection.
Wiggins’ USBWA honor marks the sixth-straight season at Kansas player has been named to the USBWA Men’s All America Team: Ben McLemore and Jeff Withey (2013), Thomas Robinson (2012), Marcus Morris (2011), Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich (2010) and Collins (2009).
No. 10/10 Kansas (23-8, 14-4) will face either Oklahoma State or Texas Tech on Thursday, March 12, in the quarterfinals of the Big 12 Championship. OSU and TTU will play Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. Kansas has won nine Big 12 postseason titles and 13 overall conference tourneys.
