Accolades Continue to Roll in for Ellis

LAWRENCE, Kan. – As the 2014-15 college basketball season reaches its conclusion, accolades continue to roll in for Kansas junior Perry Ellis.

On March 30, Ellis was named Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention. On March 25, the Wichita, Kansas, native was named one of 25 finalists for the Lute Olson Award by CollegeInsider.com. The Lute Olson Award is presented annually to the nation’s top Division I player who has played at least two seasons. The finalists for the award also represent the Lute Olson All-America team. The winner of the Lute Olson Award will be announced April 3. KU’s Sherron Collins was the first winner of the award in 2010.

In the April 2015 issue of Basketball Times, Ellis was named to the five-member Midlands All-District Team.

Ellis is the only player in the Big 12 to rank in the top-10 in scoring (7th, 13.8 ppg), rebounding (4th, 6.9 rpg) and field goal percentage (7th, 45.7) in 2014-15. Four other players in the league check in among the top-10 in two of the three stats, including KU sophomore guard Frank Mason III, but only Ellis holds a top-10 ranking in all three. A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week this season, Ellis tied for third in the conference with seven double-doubles and posted four games with 20 or more points, including three in league play.

Kansas posted a 27-9 overall record in 2014-15 and won its 11th-straight, 15th Big 12 and NCAA-leading 58th overall conference regular-season championship with a 13-5 league record. The Jayhawks had the toughest schedule in the nation and its 10 victories against Associated Press nationally-ranked teams at tip were the most for KU in a season. Kansas faced 16 ranked teams at tip which were four more than the previous high for a season set three times (1994-95, 2002-03 and 2011-12). Included were 2015 Final Four teams Kentucky and Michigan State.
