Ellis Named Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas – SeniorPerry Ellis closed out his final week of Big 12 regular-season play by averaging 21.0 points against two top-25 opponents to earn Big 12 Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Sunday morning.

Ellis recorded back-to-back 20-point efforts as the Jayhawks, winners of 11-straight games, put the finishing touches on their 12th-straight Big 12 regular-season title. The senior forward averaged 21.0 points and 5.5 rebounds, shooting 60 percent (18-of-30) from the field. He opened the week with 20 points in a road win at No. 23 Texas, before following with a 22-point effort in a senior night victory over No. 21 Iowa State. Ellis has posted 11 games with 20 points or more this season, including eight in Big 12 competition.

All-Big 12 honors will be announced later today (Sunday, March 6).

Ellis and the No. 1-ranked Jayhawks (27-4, 15-3 Big 12) will be the No. 1 seed in this week’s Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Kansas will face the winner of No. 8 seed Kansas State and No. 9 seed Oklahoma State on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Central time on ESPN2.
