Josh Jackson named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Kansas freshman guard Josh Jackson has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Newcomer of the Week in a vote by a media panel which covers the league, the conference announced Monday.

Jackson averaged 13.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in two Kansas wins last week. The Detroit native shot 80 percent from the field, connecting on 12-of-15 shots from the floor. Jackson scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half of the Jayhawks’ 77-75 win over No. 1 Duke, Nov. 15, in the Champions Classic in New York City. In KU’s 86-65 victory against Siena, Nov. 18, Jackson scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting with three assists and two blocked shots. Through three games, Jackson is averaging 11.7 points and 4.3 rebounds for the Jayhawks.

Kansas (2-1) will play UAB (2-1) on Monday, Nov. 21, at 8:30 p.m., in bracket play of the CBE Hall of Fame Classic at Sprint Center in Kansas City, Missouri. The game will be televised on ESPN2. KU will stay in Kansas City and will play either Georgia or George Washington on Tuesday, Nov. 22.
