Lawson named to The Sporting News All-America Second Team

LAWRENCE, Kan.The Sporting News (TSN) is one of the first All-America teams released annually and Kansas redshirt-junior Dedric Lawson is a second-team selection by the publication, TSN announced Monday.
 
The Sporting News is among the outlets used for the official NCAA consensus All-America team and this is the third-straight year a Kansas player has earned TSN All-America honors. Last season, Jayhawk Devonte’ Graham was a first-team honoree and the in 2016-17 Frank Mason III earned first-team distinction and was later the national player of the year by TSN.
 
In the past two days, Lawson has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, All-Big 12 First Team and a member of the Big 12 All-Newcomer Team. Additionally, he was recently named a Naismith Trophy semifinalist and to the Wooden Award official ballot.
 
Lawson has posted four straight double-doubles after his 23 points and 14 rebounds against Baylor (3/9) in the regular-season finale. The Memphis, Tennessee, forward leads the Big 12 in scoring at 19.1 ppg, rebounding at 10.6 rpg and with 20 double-doubles, which ranks tied for sixth nationally. Lawson has 15 games of 20 or more points and he is the only player in the league averaging a double-double. A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week (11/12, 11/26, 12/26) and five-time league newcomer of the week (12/3, 12/17, 1/14, 1/28, 2/11), Lawson leads KU with 33 blocked shots and his 1.1 blocks per game are fifth in the conference. Lawson is 10th in the Big 12 with a 49.1 field goal percentage.
 
Historically, Lawson has 56 career double-doubles, which are fourth on the NCAA Division I active list. He is the only non-senior on the NCAA Division I top-10 list. Lawson’s 20 double-doubles this season are fifth on the KU single-season list and he is one away from moving into a tie for third.
