Lawson named to the Sporting News midseason All-America team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas redshirt-junior Dedric Lawson has been named to the 2018-19 Sporting News Midseason All-America First Team, the publication announced Tuesday. Last year, 11 of the 15 players on the midseason team made the list at season’s end.
Lawson has seven double-doubles in his last 10 games and a Big 12-leading 11 for the season, which is tied for second nationally. The Memphis, Tennessee, forward has scored 20 or more points in nine games this season with eight in his last 14 contests. Lawson is second in the Big 12 in scoring at 19.2 ppg and leads the league in rebounding at 10.6 rpg. He is the only player in the league averaging a double-double. A three-time Big 12 Player of the Week (11/12, 11/26, 12/26) and three-time league newcomer of the week (12/3, 12/17, 1/14), Lawson leads KU with 19 blocked shots and his 1.1 blocks per game are ninth in the conference.
No. 7/8 Kansas (15-2, 4-1) will play at West Virginia (8-8, 0-4) on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 1 p.m. (Central) on ESPN. The Mountaineers play at TCU tonight (Jan. 15).
