Alvamar Country Club to be renamed The Jayhawk Club

LAWRENCE, Kan. – One of the region’s best-known golf facilities has a new name.

Alvamar Country Club, the home of KU’s men’s and women’s golf programs, will now be known as The Jayhawk Club. Additionally, the golf facility will feature a new logo and branding that incorporates the club name with the iconic Jayhawk mark. The new club will also feature officially licensed merchandise reflecting the facility name change.

The Jayhawk Club’s new name, marks and merchandise are made possible through a new licensing agreement between Eagle 1968 LLC, which owns the facility, and the University of Kansas. Eagle 1968 LLC is headed by Lawrence developer Thomas Fritzel and his family, who also developed Rock Chalk Park.

The 20-year agreement allows the club to use KU’s registered marks and names for an annual fee of $120,000 for the first 10 years. That annual amount is adjusted for inflation for the final 10 years of the agreement. The university will use the annual licensing revenue to support student scholarships and academic programming.

Fritzel said this partnership brings new energy and excitement to this historic community landmark.

“Bob Billings was such a positive and energetic force,” Fritzel said. “There is much to learn from his approach – in business and in life.  Every day is a gift, and we should live it fully. It is an honor and a privilege to continue what he started.”

“Alvamar Country Club has been a great home for the University of Kansas men’s and women’s golf programs, and there has been a terrific partnership between the club and the university during that time,” said Tim Caboni, KU vice chancellor for public affairs. “This new license agreement is an extension of that partnership that will benefit The Jayhawk Club, the university, our student-athletes and the entire region. We are excited to have our university’s name and our world-famous Jayhawk affiliated with the facility.”  The official online source for Kansas Athletics, Williams Education Fund contributions, tickets, merchandise, multimedia, photos and much, much more.
