Five Jayhawks Earn Academic All-Big 12 Honors

IRVING, Texas – Success has been a common theme throughout the course of the 2015-16 Kansas men’s golf season and the list of accolades grew on Thursday as the conferenced announced five Jayhawks have been awarded Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

The five golfers that made the first team consists of seniors David Auer, Connor Peck and Ben Welle, junior Chase Hanna and sophomore Daniel Hudson.

For Auer, Welle and Hudson, this marks their first career selection to the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, while Peck and Hanna join the list for the second time in as many years. Historically, the five Jayhawks to earn Academic All-Big 12 First Team honors is the most in program history, as this also marks back-to-back years where KU has had three or more players on Academic All-Big 12 list.

To qualify for Academic All-Big 12, student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of their team’s scheduled contests. Senior student-athletes who have participated for a minimum of two years and meet all the criteria except percent of participation are also eligible.

First-team members consist of those student-athletes who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, while the second team selections hold a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

Up next for Kansas, the Jayhawks will travel to Iowa City, Iowa to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational April which takes place on 16-17.
