Hanna named Big 12 Golfer of the Month

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Adding on to his late-season list of accomplishments, it was announced Thursday morning that senior Chase Hanna is the men’s Big 12 Golfer of the Month as a result of his excellent play in the month of April.

“This is a great honor for Chase and he is very deserving after winning the Big 12 Championship,” head coach Jamie Bermel said.  “He seems to be playing well at the right time, and most importantly, he has been a great leader of our golf team.”

Earning his second-career victory, Hanna’s month was highlighted by his dramatic victory at the Big 12 Championship, April 24-26, where he was down four strokes through 12 holes before fighting his way back with birdies on four of the last six holes to enter the clubhouse in a tie for the lead. A missed putt by Texas made Hanna the sole champion, marking the first individual league title since Slade Adams in 1995.

Collecting 39 total birdies, Hanna placed in the top-10 in each of three April events and finished in the top-5 in the last two, with a 14th place finish at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic and a 5th place finish at the Hawkeye Invitational. Hanna played 8 of his 10 rounds at even par or better on his way to a 71.3 (even par) stroke average for the month.
