Hanna named Co-Big 12 Golfer of the Month
LAWRENCE, Kan. – Four weeks after the performance of a lifetime, senior Chase Hanna was announced Co-Big 12 Golfer of the Month, due to his record-setting accolades in November.
On the morning of December 7, the Big 12 Conference announced that Hanna would represent the Jayhawks, sharing the November honor with fellow Big 12 competitor, Blaine Hale, a sophomore from Oklahoma. Hanna made his case by posting a career low, 61, in the second round of the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic on November 5, setting a new school standard and only one off of tying the NCAA low.
Hanna’s nine birdies and one eagle in a single round put him in a position to finish the tournament tied for sixth place, no easy feat as the field consisted of four top-25 ranked teams. This marks the fourth top-10 finish of the season and tenth of his career.
“Nice honor for Chase and a great way to finish out the fall season” head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Chase is a senior and he’s our most experienced player. He had a very solid fall season and we look forward to his strong play in the spring.”
The Jayhawks wrapped up their fall season with the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic, as Hanna led the team in scoring, posting a one and a half below par scoring average through six events. Hanna also managed to rack up his first career victory at the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Kansas will begin its spring campaign on February 17, where it will compete in the Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.
