Hanna named to PING All-Regional Team

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Continuing to receive acknowledgement for a successful final season, senior Chase Hanna was named to the Division I PING All-Region Central Team by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Saturday afternoon.

“This is a great honor for Chase and very deserved,” men’s golf head coach Jamie Bermel said. “He played well all year long and capped it off with a Big 12 title.”

Hanna’s season was highlighted by his first two career victories, both coming in dramatic fashion. Collecting birdies on the 17th and 18th holes, Hanna managed to post a 5-under-par final round for his first-career victory, tying for first at the Golfweek Conference Challenge and leading the Jayhawks to a team victory. Excelling in tough conditions at the Big 12 Championship, Hanna birdied four of his last four holes to become the individual victor for the second time in his career.

Catching fire in the second round of the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic, Hanna finished with a 10-under-par 71, setting a new school best and falling short of the NCAA Record by only one stroke. Hanna led the squad as the only golfer with an under-par scoring average of 70.95 (-.72 from par). He also recorded 11 rounds in the 60’s, 10 top-20 finishes, six top-10 finishes, four top-5 finishes and two victories.

Hanna is the first Jayhawk to be named to the PING All-Region Central Team since Chris Gilbert was awarded the honor in 2013.
