Chase Hanna qualifies for upcoming Web.com Tour event

Former Kansas men’s golfer Chase Hanna shot a 10-under 62, including nine birdies and one eagle, at TalonsCove Golf Course in Saratoga Springs, Utah, Monday to qualify for the Web.com Utah Championship, July 12-15, at Oakridge Country Club in Farmington, Utah.

Playing in the first group of the day at the open qualifier at TalonsCove, Hanna started his double-digit under-par round with an eagle on the par-5 first hole. The Leawood, Kansas, native would go on to card three birdies and one bogey on the front nine, heading to the turn with a 4-under 32. Hanna then posted six birdies on the back nine, including three straight from holes 11 through 13 and three more over the final four holes, to finish 10-under on the par 72 course.

Hanna won the open qualifier, edging Neil Johnson (-9) and Nyasha Mauchaza (-9) by one shot in the 145-golfer field. A total of 12 golfers from Monday’s qualifier advanced to participate in this weekend’s Web.com Tour event in Farmington, Utah.

A 2017 PING All-America, Hanna was the 2017 Big 12 Championship medalist and a two-time All-America Scholar while lettering at KU from 2014-17.

This weekend will mark the second Web.com Tour event for Hanna since turning pro in summer 2017. He also competed in the 2017 Digital Ally Open at the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate in Overland Park, Kansas, but did not make the cut.

Hanna will join fellow Jayhawk and Web.com Tour pro Chris Thompson this weekend in Utah. Thompson, who played at KU from 1996-99 and was a two-time All-America, has two top-10 finishes in 2018 and has made 10 of 14 cuts on the Web.com Tour.
