Badger Invitational live scoring

LAWRENCE, Kan. – For the second season in a row, the Kansas men’s golf team will begin its journey back to the NCAA Championship in Madison, Wisconsin, at the Badger Invitational. The University Ridge Golf Course will host the 54-hole event, which will begin on Sunday, September 9, and end Tuesday, September 11.

“We spent a great deal of time looking at everyone’s fundamentals and making sure we had a good starting point.” KU head coach Jamie Bermel said. “I think everyone is glad qualifying is over and now the competition begins.”

The Jayhawks will send six golfers to Madison, all of which are returning from last year’s team. Seniors Charlie Hillier and Jake Scarrow will fill the shoes of 2017-18 seniors Daniel Sutton and Daniel Hudson. Scarrow will be tasked with competing individually for the Jayhawks. Charlie Hillier is most familiar with the course as this will be his third time playing the course. Junior Andy Spencer has seen the most success at University Ridge, finishing second overall (10-under-par) in last season’s tournament. Sophomore Ben Sigel made his college debut at last season’s invitational, while sophomore Harry Hillier will play the course for the first time.

“Although we are not taking any freshman, all of them seem to be getting their feet under them and starting to make progress.” Bermel said. “I look for some of them to travel and compete in the near future.”

The Badger Invitational will showcase 12 teams, including Big 12 foe Iowa State. The Jayhawks competed in last season’s invitational, finishing second overall with three golfers finishing in the top 15.

The invitational is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., with live scoring available at Birdiefire.com.
