Day One Results

TRINITY, Texas – Heading into Saturday’s third round of the Big 12 Championship, the Kansas men’s golf team finds itself in eighth place following an opening day at Whispering Pines Golf Club that saw scores of 307-309–616 (+40). The Jayhawks carded a +19 in the first round and had troubles bouncing back in the afternoon to climb up the leaderboard.

Shooting a total of 585 (+9), top-ranked Texas leads the 10-team field by seven strokes, as Paul Barjon of TCU and Beau Hossler of Texas stands atop of the individual leaderboard with an overall score of 142 (-2). Kansas will tee off on Saturday at the par-72, 7,473-yard course 11 strokes behind fifth-place Kansas State.

“We didn’t play our best today,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “The guys struggled but we still have 36 more holes, so hopefully we can get back on track.”

Leading the way for the Jayhawks is sophomore Daniel Hudson, who shot 77-74–151 (+7) in the first two rounds. He finds himself in position to obtain his sixth top-20 finish on the season, sitting in a tie for 15th in the 50-golfer field.

Behind Hudson on the Kansas leaderboard is freshman Charlie Hillier. After beginning the event on a strong note, shooting a 74 (+2) in the first round, Hillier struggled to maintain that groove in the second round, carding a 79 (+7). He is currently tied for 21st.

After shooting a 77 (+5) in the morning round on Friday, senior Connor Peck repeated that score in the afternoon session, giving a two-round total of 154 (+10). He will look to climb the leaderboard on Saturday and put himself in position for his team-leading 10th top-20 placing of the season, as he currently sits tied for 25th.

Despite having a rough opening day, senior Ben Welle managed to crack to the top-40, standing alone at 40th-place on the individual leaderboard after he shot scores of 79-79–158 (+14) Friday. Rounding off the group of Jayhawks representing is junior Chase Hanna, who recorded a total of 159 (+15) in the first two rounds and currently sits by himself in 41st-place.
