AWENDAW, S.C. – After tying a career day to the start the tournament on Sunday, Senior Charlie Hillier matches his round one total of 5-under par to lead Kansas men’s golf. The Jayhawks as a team remain fourth place at 7-under and are seven strokes back of the College of Charleston for first place in the tournament. Kansas finished day two with 287 (-1) score. Kent State resides in second place at 12-under, while No. 20 South Carolina sits in third at 11-under.

Redshirt freshman Jeff Doty finished as the Jayhawks second best performer, shooting 2-under and moving him up to a tie for 25th overall. Junior Andy Spencer was the third finisher for Kansas, going 3-over on the second day, which moved him to 1-over for the tournament and into a tie for 30th place.

Sophomore Harry Hillier came off a 1-under round one performance on day one but finished 3-over on day two to move one stroke behind Spencer for third on the Jayhawks lineup. Sophomore Ben Sigel rounded out the five with a 3-over round, moving him to 7-over for the tournament.

QUOTES
Head Coach Jamie Bermel

Q: What do you guys need to do better in order to secure your second first place finish this season?

A: We played fairly solid on the front, but made a couple of mistakes on the back nine and paid the price. Charlie and Jeff helped us out quite a bit as we counted to 75’s. The weather on Tuesday is supposed to be cool and windy so it will be an absolute grind on the final round. If we can post something early we may have a chance, but we can all five guys to play well.
