Interior of the Kansas Golf Training FacilityLAWRENCE, Kan. – With symbolism at its finest, the foundation has been poured and cured at the construction site of the Kansas Golf Training Facility at The Jayhawk Club, as the near $2 million indoor-outdoor complex is scheduled to open in the spring of 2018.

With unlimited recruiting and practice benefits to both Jayhawk golf programs, head coaches Erin O’Neil and Jamie Bermel are anxious to begin the newest chapter of KU golf.

“This facility is going to be great for our current team and will be huge for recruiting moving forward,” O’Neil said. “Since we are in a cooler climate, this facility will neutralize any type of weather and provide a place for our players to practice year round. That is a huge advantage that we have been missing.”

The development of Kansas golfers is also a long-term benefit of this training center, as it is exclusive to the members of the KU golf programs and allows student-athletes to come and go as they please to work on the aspects of their game.

“The facility will give us an unbelievable amount of flexibility with scheduling of practices, both from a team and individual standpoint,” Bermel said. “The building and practice area will allow our team to practice any part of their game, 365 days a year.”

The complex will feature an outdoor short-game area, a driving range and exclusive zoysia and bent grass tee boxes to prepare the Jayhawks for any event. In the 8,500-square foot, climate-controlled indoor structure, the KU golf student-athletes will have access to a custom putting and chipping area, seven hitting bays each equipped with launch monitors and a simulation room.

In addition, the Jayhawks will also have separate locker rooms and lounges for both the men’s and women’s teams, as well coaches’ offices. In the locker rooms there will be custom-finished lockers while KU blue granite countertops can be found throughout the entire facility.
