Luke Kluver signs to play golf at Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Nebraska standout golfer Luke Kluver (Clue-ver) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play golf at Kansas, KU head coach Jamie Bermel said Friday. Named the 2017 and 2018 Nebraska Junior Golfer of the Year, Kluver has built a resume which includes professional events and multiple national amateur competitions.

Last summer Kluver won the qualifier for Web.com tour’s Pinnacle Bank Championship in Omaha, advancing to compete in the professional event. The Norfolk, Nebraska, native also qualified and played at the U.S. Open sectionals in Springfield, Ohio, the U.S. Junior Amateur in Wichita, the Boys Junior PGA Championship in Louisville and the U.S. Amateur at Riviera in Los Angeles.

“Luke has a chance to be a special player and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome him to the Jayhawk golf family,” Bermel said. “Coach (Chris) Wilson was the lead recruiter and he was relentless in his efforts.”

In August 2018, Kluver posted a 3-0 match record in leading Nebraska to the team title at the 2018 Kansas-Nebraska Junior Cup played at Lawrence Country Club. The following month, he placed 28th overall, second among amateurs, at the 2018 Nebraska Open.

As a high school junior, Kluver finished tied for fourth at the 2017 Nebraska Open, tying former KU All-American and current PGA Tour member Chris Thompson.

Entering his senior season at Norfolk High School, Kluver has won two Class A state titles in the last three years and guided Norfolk to the 2018 team championship winning medalist honors by eight strokes. At 6-foot-3, Kluver is also a standout on the Norfolk basketball team and was part of Norfolk’s 2017 Class A state title.

Kluver is the fourth KU commitment for next fall. Sion Audrain (Garden City, Kansas), William Duquette (Montreal, Canada) and Hank Lierz (St. Joseph, Missouri) committed to Kansas last November.

“Luke joins a class of three others and we believe all of them could help the team immediately,” Bermel said.
