Day Two Standings

AWENDAW, S.C.  – Following a day that saw two different Jayhawks move into the top-10, the Kansas men’s golf team sits in ninth-place after the second round of Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate at Bulls Bay Golf Club. In the second day of the three-day event, KU carded a score of 289 (+1) to bring its two-day total to 580 (+4). The Jayhawks are eight strokes behind fifth-place Auburn, as South Carolina (-3) now leads the 15-team field by three strokes.

“We played better today, but still had to count another 4-over round,” head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Connor Peck was impressive today and Charlie Hillier hung right in there all day. We will need to get four good scores on Tuesday if we are going to move up the leaderboard.”

After a first round that consisted of a steady 73 (+1), Peck came out of the clubhouse on Monday clicking on all cylinders, as he fired off seven birdies. By the time he walked off the course, Peck finished 5-under on the day and climbed 26 spots on the leaderboard and into a fifth-place tie at 140 (-4). Peck’s 67 Monday tied for the low round of the day as he sits four strokes behind individual leaders Matt Gilchrest of Auburn and Austin James of Charleston Southern at 136 (-8).

Joining Peck in the top-10 is Hillier, where he heads into Tuesday’s final round in sole possession of eighth-place. Following another first-round score below par, Hillier managed to card another round in the red, as he finished the day shooting a 71 (-1), giving him a two-day total of 141 (-3).

Behind Hillier on the Kansas leaderboard is senior Ben Welle. Entering the third round, Welle will look to bounce back from his performance on Monday, as he carded a 75 (+3) and is tied for 40th. He currently stands just three strokes behind the top-20, which would be his seventh top-20 finish of the season.

In Monday’s second round, junior Chase Hanna recorded another 76 (+4), giving him a total score of 152 (+8), where he finds himself tied for 61st-place. Rounding off the group representing KU in this event is sophomore Daniel Hudson, who will seek to improve his tied for 70th standing, as his 80 (+8) on Monday gives him a two-day total of 156 (+12).
