LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Kansas men’s golf team will return to action Friday Feb. 21, when they compete in their first tournament of the spring season at the University of Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif.

The Jayhawks will be represented this weekend by freshman Chase Hanna, sophomores Ben Welle and Jackson Foth, and junior Logan Philley who are all playing in their sixth tournament of the 2013-14 campaign. Sophomore Connor Peck will be joining this group as the fifth member of the team as he appears in his third tournament of the season. Junior Stan Gautier will be participating in the tournament as an individual player representing his fifth tournament of the year, second of which he had the individual tag.

Hanna, has been the leader of the Jayhawks thus far in 2013-14 as he has finished as the top Jayhawk in three of the five tournaments in the fall. His most successful event came in Madison, Wis., at the Badger Invitational where he finished in a tie for fifth after shooting a three-round even par.

Welle has led the Jayhawks in scoring in the other two tournaments this season with his best event being the final contest of the fall season. Welle shot a 209 (-7) at the UTEP Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational in El Paso, Texas, where he placed in a tie for sixth.

Looking to contribute to the Jayhawks effort is Foth who hopes to build of his Badger Invitational finish of 220 (+4) placing him in a tie for 10th, his best finish of the 2013-14 season. Peck is also looking to add to the team’s strength as he is seeing action in his third-straight tournament. Peck ended the fall on a high note where he finished in a tie for 22nd after shooting a three-round one-over par (217) at the UTEP Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational.

Philley is another weapon the Jayhawks have added to their team as he is one of the only two members this year to finish a tournament under par. Philley recorded this outing at the UTEP Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational where he shot a 214 (-2) placing him a tie for 16th.

The last time Gautier played as an individual he recorded a 226 (+10) at the UTEP Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational. Gautier looks to keep improving his scores as he is working toward being in the starting five for the Jayhawks once again.
