PALM DESERT, Calif. – Kansas men’s golf improved 10 strokes and climbed seven spots up the leaderboard and is in 16th-place after day two of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, California, Saturday.
 
The Jayhawks shot a 295 (+7) in Saturday’s second round and has a two-day total 600 (+24) on the Classic Course. KU is one-stroke behind Loyola Marymount and Houston Baptist, who are tied for 14th with team totals 599 (+23). Texas Tech leads the 24-team field with 281-282—563 (-13), which his nine strokes ahead of TCU at 572 (-4).
 
“We played much better today in windy conditions. With the exception of two triple bogeys, we played well,” Kansas head coach Jamie Bermel said. “Brock (Drogosch) made seven birdies today and had a solid round.”
 
KU redshirt freshman Brock Drogosch is tied for 27th in the 128-golfer field. He finished the second day carding seven birdies to shoot 72 (E) and has a two day 75-72—147 (+3).  Following Drogosch was Kansas freshman Daniel Hudson, who shot 73 (+1) Saturday, which included five birdies on the day. Hudson is tied for 55th with a two-round 150 (+6). Hudson’s 73 is the lowest-round in his Kansas career.
 
Junior Ben Welle and sophomore Chase Hanna both shot 75 (+3) for their second round with each carding two birdies on the day. Hanna is currently tied for 63rd with a two-round 76-75—151 (+7) and Welle is tied for 70th with a two-round 77-75—152 (+8). Jayhawk senior Logan Philley finished his second round shooting 87 (+15) and has a two-round 168 (+24). Junior Connor Peck, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 44th, shooting 72 (E), carding three birdies on Saturday.
 
“We need to play better on Sunday and I am confident that we can improve again in the final round,” Bermel said.
